Papillon

I have a 2 year old Pap named Gizmo.  I have had him for about 6 months now, and love him to death.  I live with my boyfriend, and when the dog greets him, he seems to pee a little bit, usually on him! sad  The 2 get along real good, and the dog never does this to me.  He'll even do this right after going to the bathroom.  Just wanted to see if anyone has experienced this.

Re: Papillon

My dog, Candi, pees when she greets my husband, even if he has been gone for less than an hour.  Never when she greets me.  The vet says it is because he really acts excited every time he sees her and makes a big fuss over her.  If your boyfriend does not acknowledge Gizmo until a few minutes after his arrival, he may not pee.

I agree, have your boyfriend simply turn his back to Gizmo when she gets excited.  She should calm down and stop the excitable pee soon. It worked for us!

Re: Papillon

Hi Jen,

What you, well really your boyfiend is experiencing is termed "submissive urination."  There are several reasons why our (4) legged friends develop this type of behavior.  Without expanding on the topic too much, I would like to supply you with some direction.
1. As the earlier post stated- have your boyfriend ignore the puppy for the first (15) minutes upon entry.
2. When your boyfriend does interact, ask him not to get so excited.
3. After the dog goes to the bathroom, don't make such a big deal over it and give him so much attention, he will learn that by doing this he receives attention.
